Mission Statement

"For as long as humans have existed, we have been forced into conforming to certain standards of beauty and what it means to be desirable. The disabled community has never been able to comfortably fit into any of them. We have been taught that disabled life and disabled bodies are incompatible with intimacy, both romantically and not. In This Body is a testament that disabled people are to be considered desirable as partners, friends, and more. We hope to shift the view and mindset of our current society to normalize intimacy as and with disabled people. Here are our stories."

MEET THE creators behind the project

Rachel & Monica

Rachel is a disabled creator and storyteller based in New York City. Her work is driven by her own lived experiences navigating a world that often misunderstands or erases disabled people as a visible part of life. Her projects reclaim space for tenderness, autonomy, and connection, presenting disabled people as subjects of their own stories rather than symbols or metaphors.

Monica is a New York City based creative director with a background in musical theatre and graphic design. She has collaborated with artists and creators around the city to shape meaningful visual narratives through thoughtful creative direction and intentional design. Her work is rooted in amplifying underrepresented voices and revealing the beauty within stories that often go untold.
